How to install Plesk on CentOS

Plesk is a commercial web hosting and server data center automation software with a control panel developed for Linux and Windows-based retail hosting service providers.

Plesk Minimum Requirements

  • The minimum amount of RAM required for installing and running Plesk on Linux is 512 MB + 1 GB swap. On Windows – 2 GB of RAM.
  • The minimum amount of free disk space required for installing and running Plesk is 10 GB on Linux and 30 GB on Windows

    Plesk Recommended Requirements

For an ordinary shared hosting environment we recommend that you have at least 1GB of RAM per 40 – 50 websites. So, 200 websites would imply Plesk hardware requirements of a minimum of 4GB. We base this recommendation on the following assumptions:

    • On average, shared hosting servers see that about 10% of websites are active, in other words 10% of websites have a persistent level of traffic week in, week out
    • 128MB of RAM will handle most websites. For example:
      • 64MB for WordPress
      • 64MB for Joomla
      • 128MB for Drupal
      • 128MB for Symfony
    • A maximum of 1 to 3 simultaneous visitors for each website, with no more than 500 unique visitors per website on any given day

Websites with higher traffic (for example, 5 to 10 concurrent visitors and a total of 1,000 to 30,000 visitors per day) will require more RAM, in the range of 500MB to 1GB for each website. Also note that Plesk hardware requirements means that you need enough disk space for memory swapping.

Installing Plesk via CLI on CentOS

  • Download Plesk installer: wget https://autoinstall.plesk.com/plesk-installer
  • Add proper permissions to Plesk installer: chmod +x plesk-installer
  • Run Plesk installer via command line and follow instructions: ./plesk-installer or ./plesk-installer --all-versions
  • First you will need to confirm your decision by choosing “Go forward” and in case of –all-versions there will be option to choose the certain version of Plesk
  • Wait until installation process is done
  • After the installation process is done, you may login to the interface to do that see below:
https://<SERVER_NAME_OR_IP_ADDRESS>:8443 (put in your server's IP in your browser)
  • Username: root Password: <YOUR_SERVER_ROOT_PASSWORD>

Change the Plesk Administrator Account Password

For security reasons, a random password is generated for the Plesk administrator account when Plesk is installed. Provide the new password at this time. The next time you access the Plesk administrator account interface, use the user name ‘admin’ and the password you enter now.

Enter the Plesk Administrator Information

Provide the personal information and contact details for the administrator account.

Accept the End User Agreement

Read and accept the end user agreement to proceed.

Install a Product License Key

Plesk is installed without a product license. Until any product license key is installed, Plesk interface is not accessible other than the license key installation window.

Note: Some vendors may provide Plesk with a product license key already installed.

If you wish to evaluate Plesk functionality before you purchase a license, you can download a trial product license key, which enables full functionality for 14 days. You can download it here: Download Your Free Plesk Trial.
